Preoperative Visit

On the preoperative visit, the patients are seen in the Ellison Building, Suite 1700. They undergo up to date radiographs with the appropriate sizing markers if they are having a joint replacement. They are seen by one of Dr. Jamali's assistants as well as by him to answer any last-minute questions. The preoperative clearance notes from the patient's primary care physician is reviewed and any required laboratory tests are ordered. The patients preoperative state is quantified by direct entry of data into a computer system as well as additional data entry by the clinic staff. This allows comparisons of the patients ultimate function and pain relative to their preoperative state. After the orthopaedic visit has been completed, the patients go the anesthesia preoperative clinic to have a final review of any medical and potential anesthetic issues prior to the surgery.
