Day of Surgery

All of Dr. Jamali's surgeries are performed at UC Davis Medical Center.

On the day of surgery, patients usually arrive at 5:45 AM for a first case start. The operating room usually calls the patients on the day prior to surgery to remind them what time to come in to the hospital. Patients come into the front entrance of the hospital and go to the information desk.

Patients are directed to the Tower I ward which is the preoperative area. In this area, the patients labs are reviewed, additional labs are obtained, they change into hospital gowns, and undergo a final checklist for the surgery. When the operating room is ready for the patients, they are called up and transported by one of the hospital assistants. Dr. Jamali's patient families are then directed to the second floor waiting room, Room #2703. In most cases, the surgery does not commence until 1.5 to 2 hours after the patient is taken upstairs in order to allow time for starting IV lines, giving medications, etc. At the end of the surgery, Dr. Jamali or one of his assistants will meet with the family to discuss the outcome and answer any questions. Families are usually not able to see the patient until after the patient goes up to his/her room which could be as long as 3 hours after the end of the operation.
